The city of Cardiff will provide the backdrop for this weekend’s Champions League extravaganza as two giants of World football go head to head for the European crown.

Fresh from winning their first Spanish title in five years, Real Madrid had to overcome the likes of Bayern Munich and arch city rivals Atletico Madrid to book their place in this year’s final. They will now set about securing their 12th European Cup and their second in a row under boss Zinedine Zidane.

Los Blancos won their last six league games in a row, and finished the season with a tally of 106 goals. On the European stage, they scored in every game they played and need just one more goal to take their Champions League total to 500.

The Spaniards have won the last five Champions League finals they have contested and have won the competition more times than any other team. Their last finals defeat came in the 1981 edition when they were beaten 1-0 by Liverpool in Paris. They will now seek to become the first club to retain the trophy since the change of format in 1992.

Meanwhile, opponents Juventus arrive in Wales having sewn up an Italian league and cup double. The league triumph extended their run of consecutive titles to six, while their cup win was their third in a row.

Massimiliano Allegri’s men remain unbeaten in this year’s competition and have shipped just three goals since the start of the group stages.

The Old Lady have made it to eight European Cup finals but only have two wins to their name. What’s more, they have lost the last four finals they have appeared in.

Prediction

The bookies’ favourites have come out on top in six of the last seven finals and this year it is the Spanish side that holds that honour. And when you also take into consideration Real Madrid’s record in this competition, they also have the psychological edge.

However, while both teams can boast formidable strike forces, raising the prospect of goals at both ends, it is Madrid side who have the more porous defence. And it is this crucial factor that just leans us towards the Italian side.

You can back Juventus to Win and Both Teams to Score at 11/2 with Betfair.
