The Football Association Challenge Cup, known as the FA Cup, is the Worlds oldest football competition.  When is the final?

Saturday, 21st May 2016, 17.30

Everton and Watford where both eliminated from the last round bringing Crystal Palace and Manchester United to meet in the final at Wembley.

For Luis Van Gaals Man United this is a big FA Cup Final.  Man United have not focused on the FA Cup for some time preferring instead the dizzy heights of the Barlcays Premiership and Champions League.  Not since 2006/07 have Man United had an FA Cup final.  On that occasion they lost to Chelsea.  Saturday’s final could be a saving grace for Van Gaal who’s been under pressure due to the club’s lack of silverware.   Jose Mourinho who is currently unemployed has been tipped to replace Van Gaal next season, rumours that Man United have dismissed.  See those odds change if Van Gaal’s United loses to Crystal Palace.  Harry Rednapp is on record saying “From the people I know who are in the know, Jose Mourinho is a done deal”.  Currently 4/11 on Betfair and 1.33 on the betting exchange for Van Gaal to leave the club.

Last time Palace met United in the FA Cup final was 1990 that resulted in an explosive final ending in a 3 – 3 draw after extra time forcing a replay.   The last shock victory was only 2013 when Wigan Athletic beat Manchester City 1 – 0.

Man United are clearly under more pressure in this match giving Crystal Palace a golden opportunity.  Alan Pardew’s team will be ready for Man United wanting to retain possession and will come back fighting with what they have shown to be some great counter attacking runs.  Man United may have possession but could lack chances on goal.

Players to watch

Anthony Martial is the secret weapon in Van Gaal’s armoury.  His destructive power is no longer a secret, however.  His 93rd minute  winner against Everton sealed Man United’s place in this match.

Wilfried Zaha has pace which could punish Man United on the counter attack.  Recently Man United have looked vulnerable in wide areas shown by recent defeats to Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.

Marouane Fellaini is back from suspension and could cause trouble for Palace in Midfield.
