The top goal scorer market is one of the most popular pre-season markets for punters betting on the English Premier League. Every year, many of the top bookmakers offer some great incentives to explore this market and this season is no exception.

One of the most attractive offers this year comes from Betfair, who will offer you a free £5 bet every time your selection scores if you place £25 or more on the top goal scorer market. The only question remaining is which player should you pick?

The obvious choice might be last year’s winner Sergio Aguero who topped the table in 2014-15 with a total of 26 goals. That was his best ever haul in his top-flight career and he achieved it in just 30 starts and three substitute appearances. There is little to suggest that he will not perform at a similar level this term barring any injury problems. Both his 2012-13 and 2013-14 campaigns were disrupted by injury although he still managed 29 goals in 42 starts across those two periods.

The only drawback in backing Aguero is the price. The 3/1 on offer from Bet365 is about as good as you will get but there may be value to be found elsewhere in this market.

The top goal scorer market offers an each-way option and this is where you can find some good value options. The each-way terms cover the top four goal scorer positions and pays out at 1/4 odds. By delving a bit further down the field you can find some high value candidates for an each-way top goal scorer bet. Of those that could finish the season in the top four, Alexis Sanchez of Arsenal and Christian Benteke of Liverpool offer the best value.

Chilean Sanchez bagged 16 goals last season and has settled well in the Premier League. With a full season under his belt, he will be entering this term with more experience and will also be full of confidence after his countries Copa America triumph back in July. You can back Sanchez each-way at 20/1 with Bet365 or Betfair which equates to 5/1 if he is placed.

Shrewd punters might also want to consider an each-way wager on Christian Benteke. The Belgian enjoyed a spectacular return to form at the end of last season scoring 11 goals between March and May. He first caught the eye in the 2012-13 season when he recorded a tally of 19 goals during his debut season for Aston Villa. The next 18 months were less productive as he struggled with various injuries but he still managed 23 goals in 50 games and now looks close to being back to his best. At 24-years-of-age, the Belgian international still has his best years ahead of him and can be expected to lead the Liverpool front line after the club invested £32m in his services. He can be backed at 16/1 each way with Betfair.

And remember, if you place a minimum of £25 on this market with Betfair, you will get a free £5 bet every time your player scores up until the 31st October.
