English Premier League

Sunday 3rd March – 16:15

Premier League table toppers Liverpool look to maintain their slender lead in the title race as they travel the short distance to take on Merseyside rivals Everton.

Everton Form

Everton are currently hanging on to a position in the top half of the table by a thread, with a 3-0 victory at Cardiff in midweek ending a run of three consecutive league defeats.

That was their second win in three away from home but they have been extremely poor as hosts in recent months. Victory over Bournemouth in January is their only win at home in their last seven in the league, with defeats to Wolves and Manchester City in their two most recent matches at Goodison Park.

Liverpool Form

A 5-0 victory over Watford in midweek made it seven league matches without defeat for Liverpool and maintained their one point lead over Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table. They have also kept clean sheets in their last three.

However, they have drawn three of their last five league games and have only won once away from home in their last four.

Head to Head

Liverpool have a clear advantage in meetings between these two sides in recent years.

Everton’s last victory over their Merseyside rivals came all the way back in October 2010, which is a run of eighteen matches in all competition without a win against Liverpool. In fact, they have even failed to score in four of the last six league meetings.

Liverpool won the most recent meeting 1-0 in December, thanks to an extremely late goal from Divock Origi.

The last meeting with Everton as hosts ended in a goalless draw, in what was the first and only Premier League encounter between these sides, since its inception in 1992, to not see a single yellow or red card shown.

Team News

Everton are almost at full strength with the recent return to training of Leighton Baines and the return of Phil Jagielka to the squad for the match in Cardiff in midweek.

Liverpool may again be without Roberto Firminho, who missed the recent win over Watford with an ankle injury, and Dejan Lovren will also miss this match although he is nearing fitness following a hamstring injury.

Betting Odds

Liverpool are a huge betting favourite to win this match, with odds of 6/10 at Betfair. Everton are priced at 9/2 to end an 18 match win-less streak against Liverpool, with the draw priced at 16/5.

With Liverpool keeping three consecutive clean sheets in the league and Everton failing to score in four of the last six meetings, it may pay to go with Liverpool to win to nil at odds of 9/5. It is also 11/8 for Everton to fail to score, in the over/under 0.5 goals market.
