The 2019 Grand National is now just hours away, and the betting market is making it look like a two-horsed race between 2018 winner Tiger Roll and Willie Mullins’ great hope Rathvinden.

Tiger Roll is set to go off as the shortest priced favourite in the National for a century and ticks all the right boxes when looking for a winner in this race. He has talent, jumps well, has stamina, and won last year. He also looks to have improved in the last twelve months.

There has also been a lot of late backing for Rathvinden, who is now at around 15/2 and is a must for any shortlist following his 4 mile victory at Cheltenham last season and a successful return at Fairyhouse in February.

Last years placed horses Pleasant Company, Anibale Fly, and Bless the Wings will also attract plenty of attention, while 2018 Scottish National winner Joe Farrell and the ever improving Lake View Lad are also high on the list of potential winners.

However, we have chosen two horses who we think should be top of the list for each way backers everywhere.

Jury Duty

Tiger Roll is tipped to give Gordon Elliott another Grand National success, but the Irish trainer has a great chance of landing the spoils even if the favourite fails to live up to expectations and we think his best chance is Jury Duty.

The eight-year-old is a strong stayer, jumps well, is a tough and resolute performer, and looked fantastic on his winning return at Down Royal a few weeks back. In that return he showed all of his qualities to beat Mala Beach by six and a half lengths.

Runs well on any ground, is improving, and we believe will be there or thereabouts come the finish line as long as he doesn’t have a bit of bad luck on the way.

Walk in the Mill

At odds of around 25/1, perhaps the best each way bet for this race is Walk in the Mill.

The Robert Walford trained nine-year-old took to the National fences like a duck to water when finishing four and a half lengths ahead of Vieux Lion Rouge to win the Becher Chase in December and is an extremely consistent performer.

Has finished in the first three in all but one of his last seven starts and fallen just once in his career, which was back in April 2015.

Looks like a contender who will relish this test and it is difficult to find a reason why he shouldn’t be considered as a potential winner here.

Pulled out of the 2018 Grand National through injury on the morning of the race and could become the first horse to win the Becher and the National in the same season.
