Deal making in the summer transfer window has been active for the big clubs this year. Manchester United have had an overhaul by Jose Mourinho cutting out 4 players and landing the Frenchman Paul Pogba who currently plays for Juventus. Adnan Januzaj, Andreas Pereira, and Paddy McNair are gone. Bastian Schweinsteiger has be left back in reserve. With Mourinho shaking things up at Old Trafford Man United are a team to focus on this season.
Arsene Wenger may spend more money than was in the transfer kitty at the start of the summer transfer window. Alexandre Lacazette from Lyons on his own is expected to cost more than £50M. Arsenal are beefing up midfield with Granit Xhaka who has costed £30M.
Tottenham Hotspur have sealed a number of moves early on in the transfer window. Dutch forward Vincent Janssen from AZ Alkmaar and midfielder Victor Wanyama from Southampton have already been signed. Georges-Kevin N’Koudou is on his way from Marseille currently a France U21 forward.
Chelsea may be signing Romelu Lukaku from Everton to replace an outgoing Diego Costa and have reached an agreement to sign Marcin Bulka the 16 year old shot stopper from FCB Escola Varsovia.
Last season one of our big predictions for the league winner market was a lay bet on Chelsea who where the favourites to win the league. With the whole season to go Chelsea’s odds just kept getting longer and longer increasing the value of the bet. Left to the end of the season it produced a nice profit. A back bet on Arsenal ‘cashed out’ before the end of the season did the same.
What are the predictions for 2016/17? Here is how we would lay out our mini sports book for the Premiership this season.
Man United, Man City, Arsenal and Tottenham all look too strong for Chelsea to win the Premiership this season. With lay odds of 7.2 on the Betfair exchange a bet for Chelsea not to win the league looks good. As the season progresses expect that Chelsea’s odds will get longer making a winning bet that can be cashed out early or let run til the end of the season. A back bet on the following teams also look to be a good bet, Man United with odds of 4.6, Arsenal with odds of 7, Tottenham with odds of 10.5 and Leicester with odds of 40.
Mourinho is shaking things up at Man United so a back bet is warranted. Odds of 4.6 don’t offer masses of value so a stop loss of 20% of your stake would be a good idea. In other words if Man United don’t play as expected and the odds increase causing the value of the bet to go down: cash out the bet when the loss exceeds 20% of the original stake.
Arsene Wenger has got to have his day in the sun at some point. They did well last season and they are making waves in the transfer market this season.
Mauricio Pochettino has been doing well at Tottenham and the odds seem too long. The only worry is Harry Kane and hopefully he comes back fighting after a bad Euro 2016 tournament.
Based on how well Leicester City did last season odds of 40 to win the league just seem too long.
Stop losses can be applied to all bets so that teams that start doing badly get eliminated from the book if you wish. Obviously the backed teams can’t all win and the bets should be cashed out for a profit towards the end of the season.
