Saturday 8 February 17:00 – Scotland v England (Murrayfield) Scotland now face England after a dismal performance against Ireland last week. The lack of any attacking threat and a string of basic errors have left the Scottish fans with little hope of a positive result ahead of this clash with England. However, if there is one game that can fire up the Scottish team and their supporters, it is the visit of their rivals from south of the border. England have failed to get a win on Scottish soil since 2004 and have not scored more than 15 points in that time; so there is no reason to expect that this will be a walk in the park for England. These games are generally tight and tries are few and far between, so do not expect a high scoring encounter. Discipline and control when in possession will be a key factor in this match and based on that alone, England should just have the edge; but there are other considerations. If the weather is as bad as expected, then this game could be really slow and mistakes will be difficult to avoid on the boggy Murrayfield pitch. This factor could play into the hands of the home side and England will have to adapt their game to the poor conditions. England were rather downbeat after their last game against France but not because they played poorly. In fact, they put on a terrific display and showed great character to come back into the game after a bright start from the French. They came away disappointed because they did not consolidate their late advantage when the game was theirs to be won and they will be keen to avoid a third straight defeat in the tournament this weekend. England should have enough to win this game but expect a low-scoring game with both teams below the 15 point mark.
Prediction: Scotland 6 England 12.
