Liverpool v Man City, Anfield, showing on Sky Sports

Sun 13 Apr 2014 13:37 Sky Sports 1HD

Referee: Mark Clattenburg

Perhaps the biggest game of the Premier League season so far kicks off at Anfield this Sunday lunchtime. Both of these teams can keep destiny in their own hands with victory in this mouth-watering clash.

There has been lots of talk about the pressure facing Brendan Rodgers and his team but surely it is the big spending team from Manchester who have the greatest weight of expectation on their shoulders. While Liverpool are enjoying their best form in years and revelling in their unexpected ride to the top, the Sky Blues will consider anything other than a league title as a failure – especially with their close neighbours struggling so badly.

Despite the intense circumstances, it is hard to see either of these teams holding back and this game should be an enthralling encounter. Sergio Aguero is back in full training for City and could make it into the squad for City while Liverpool should have Daniel Agger available after he picked up a minor knee injury last week.

With the leagues two highest scoring teams on the pitch, this game has a massive chance of ending with over 2.5 goals – but do not expect huge returns. Liverpool’s home games have averaged 3.8 goals per game this season and City’s away games have averaged 3.2. Over 2.5 goals can be backed at 4/7 with BetVictor. For better odds, go for over 3.5 goals – also with BetVictor – at 7/5. This bet has paid out in 68.8% of Liverpool’s home games this season.

There is also a good chance of over 10.5 corners with Liverpool’s home games and City’s away games both averaging 10.7 per game this season. If you fancy Liverpool to score another penalty this weekend, you can get odds of 9/2 with Sporting Bet. The Merseyside team have been awarded more spot kicks than any other team this season with a total of 10.

If you want to delve into the goal scoring market, Luis Suarez looks like good value to score anytime at 6/4 with Boylesports. Or you could enhance your 9/2 Liverpool penalty bet with Gerrard to score anytime at 11/4 with various bookmakers.

This should be a cracking game and the final result is a tough one to call but on a weekend when the games will kick off 7 minutes late to mark the 25th anniversary of Hillsborough – you have to fancy a home win.

Match prediction: Liverpool 3-2 Man City.  Home team advantage wins the day. Check out our recommended free bet promotion
