Wimbledon – Centre Court

Andy Murray’s conqueror Sam Querrey will take on Marin Cilic for the fifth time on Friday with a place in the 2017 Wimbledon final at stake.

Cilic currently boasts a 4-0 record over the American, although they have always gone the full distance when playing on grass. Their last meeting on this surface came in this tournament back in 2012 and they also thrilled the crowds with a five setter here back in 2009.

Sam Querrey has already played three five set matches here (against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Kevin Anderson, and Andy Murray) so if it does go the distance, he will have plenty of experience to draw upon if not a full tank of energy. Having said that, he strolled through the last two sets against an injured Andy Murray in his last match and will have had a full day’s rest since then.

Both players really enjoy playing here and both are finding some form at just the right time making this game a really tough one to call.

Prediction

Querrey made it to the quarters last year, a feat that Cilic has achieved in each of the last four seasons. However, he may have relied on his serve a little too much and that could get him in trouble against Cilic.

The Croatian has been serving very well himself and his overall game has looked on point. The five setter against Muller may have taken its toll but his opponent had a much tougher ride on his way to the semis. As a result, the former Grand Slam winner should have enough to edge past the 28-year-old American.

Back Cilic in four sets at 11/4 with Betfair.
