Act accordingly. Royal Ascot starts takes place between the 16th-20th June – this is 5 straight days of top-quality racing. Tuesday is packed with 3 massive group 1 races with the big races starting with The Queen Anne Stakes! Favourite French ace Solow (13/8) and Hong Kong’s Able Friend (2/1) set to go head-to-head in an international affair! Solow has really impressed in recent displays at Meydan and Longchamp, and will be the big favourite here next week. Don’t discount Able Friend though, he is the superstar of Hong Kong racing and a scintillating performance could be on the cards.
What does the rest of the week have in store?
Prince of Wales Stakes featuring The Grey Gatsby (6/1) and despite being priced up as second favourite to Free Eagle (11/4), the Grey is said to be in prime condition this week and with jockey Ryan Moore set to partner the 4-year-old following a fruitful 2014 together, his trainer is feeling very assured of his chances here.
Friday’s Ascot Gold Cup may be the most competitively fought race. Forgotten Rules (7/4) is current favourite but Dermot Weld has again outlined ground condition as an important influence in the 5-year-old’s potential involvement, wanting to avoid fast ground. With dry conditions forecasted, it could be wise to look at the favourite’s counterparts for Gold Cup success.
Saturday’s The Diamond Jubilee Stakes is the event’s final Group 1 race and with a joint-top prize fee of £525k on offer for the big winner, this is another highly competitive race featuring some big name contenders!
