Sat 9 Nov 2013 15:00 – Chelsea v West Brom (Stamford Bridge)
Referee: Lee Probert
West Brom face a tough challenge this week when they travel to London to play Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea have a 100% home record in the Premier League this season while the Baggies have won just one game on the road when they beat Manchester United at Old Trafford. However, Steve Clarke’s team have only lost one away game this season and that came at Anfield two weeks ago when they were defeated 4-1 by Liverpool.
Chelsea will be without the injured striker Fernando Torres but otherwise have a full squad to choose from. West Brom are still dealing with a long injury list which includes Jones, Anichebe, Gera and Foster but they are hoping that Anelka and Sinclair will be fit to return for this clash against their former team.
Chelsea have scored an average of 2.4 goals at home and have conceded an average of just 0.6. West Brom average just 0.8 goals per game on the road but concede and average of 1.2 making the home win seem very likely. Chelsea win an average of 5.6 corners at home and concede an average of 4.2 while West Brom win and concede an average of 5.8 away. The most likely corner result is over 10.5.
Chelsea suffered a surprise defeat away to Newcastle last week but they have a perfect record at home and West Brom are unlikely to be the team to reverse that trend. The Baggies’ last away game was a comprehensive defeat by Liverpool and this week is likely to be another exercise in damage limitation for the midland team. This should be a convincing home win by at least two goals.
Match prediction: Chelsea 2 -0 West Brom
