Manchester City vs Chelsea, match preview - Lets

English Premier League

Sunday 10th February – 16:00

Manchester City look to keep their title challenge moving forward in the Barclays Premiership as they host Chelsea currently clinging to a top four spot.

Manchester City Form

City’s victory over Everton in midweek has seen them move back to the top of the Premier League, on goal difference. They will be hoping to at least maintain that position with a win against Chelsea but they have shown vulnerabilities in recent months.

They have lost three of their last nine league matches against teams in the bottom half of the table. However, they have won the other six and have beaten both Arsenal and Liverpool in 2019.

At home, they have won twelve of thirteen league games this term with their only blip coming in December when they lost 3-2 to Crystal Palace. Since then they have won three on the bounce as hosts.

Chelsea Form

Chelsea’s form has been somewhat indifferent in recent weeks, which has seen them clinging to a top four spot with Manchester United and Arsenal hot on their heels.

An emphatic 5-0 home victory over bottom of the table Huddersfield was a welcome relief after two straight defeats to Arsenal and Bournemouth, but may possibly have given them false confidence ahead of this clash with City.

Their away form is what has let them down this season, with just one win on the road against teams in the top half of the table and two consecutive away losses without scoring a goal.

Head to Head

These sides cannot be separated looking at head to head form. The last six league meetings have seen three victories each, with a total of seven goals apiece.

The most recent meeting was at Stamford Bridge in December, with Chelsea winning 2-0 thanks to goals from N’Golo Kante and David Luiz.

Manchester City won this fixture 1-0 last term, and were also victorious in the Community Shield at Wembley ahead of the start of this season.

Team News

Neither side have any new injuries or suspensions to contend with so are both expected to be much the same as in their previous fixtures.

City have the luxury of starting with Kevin de Bruyne, Raheem Sterling, and Gabriel Jesus as substitutes against Everton and all three will be hoping to start this match after seeing action off the bench in that game.

Chelsea will likely field the same starting XI as against Huddersfield, with Gonzalo Higuain looking to add to his first two goals for the club.

Betting Odds for Man City vs Chelsea

City are the obvious favourites to win here, with Betfair pricing them at 40/85. However, the 11/2 available on a Chelsea win looks extremely generous odds considering City do have vulnerabilities and the visitors are no pushovers.

There hasn’t been a draw in meetings between these sides since January 2015, City haven’t drawn in their last eighteen league matches and Chelsea have gone thirteen without sharing the spoils. So, a draw here looks unlikely but it’s priced at 18/5 for those who want to back it.
