Saturday 23 November 2013 – 12:45 – Everton v Liverpool (Goodison Park)

Referee: Phil Dowd

The Merseyside derby is always one of the most anticipated games of the season and this year it promises to be an entertaining match as both teams have young managers who like to play an attractive and attacking style of football. Brendan Rodgers already has derby experience  but has yet to record a victory after drawing both of his previous games, while Roberto Martinez will be hoping to deliver Everton’s first derby triumph since 2010.

There should be no significant absences from either side as Liverpool will be flying Luis Suarez back from Uruguay in John Henry’s private jet, and Daniel Sturridge appears to have recovered from the discomfort he experienced during the week while on England duty. Everton could welcome back Alacaraz after his absence through injury but he is not expected to be a starter.

Liverpool‘s away form has been very good this season but Everton have not lost at Goodison Park since the end of December last year. There are no stand out bets for the outright result of this game and the goal and corner odds do not provide any obvious value either. However, Everton have received the first card in 60% of their home games this season while Liverpool have been booked first in 0% of theirs.

Everton have not won any of the last six derby games but their current home form suggests that they will not lose either. A third straight draw in this fixture represents the most likely outcome in this game and both teams can be expected to score.

Match prediction: Everton 1-1 Liverpool
