In the highlight of this weekend’s Premier League roster, stumbling Manchester City will attempt to revive their title ambitions by overcoming the challenge of in-form Tottenham Hotspur when the teams meet at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday night. Meanwhile, their opponents will be aiming to keep the heat on league leaders Chelsea.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola knows full well that a win on Saturday evening could put his side right back in the hunt for the Premier League title. Conversely, a loss could see them fall below their city rivals in the standings and leave them with a mountain to climb. As a result, this could be the most important game that the Spanish coach has prepared for in his short time at the helm.
Having lost two of their last three matches, it could be said that the Sky Blues are out of form. However, on home soil, they have lost just one of their last 13 matches (0-2 vs Chelsea) and have won their last three in a row. In addition, they have scored in every home match this term.
They will take to the field without the suspended Fernandinho, while Ilkay Gundogan and Vincent Kompany are both injured and will also miss out.
Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur come into this game on the back of a six-game winning streak and having scored four goals in three of their last four games. Last time out, they cruised to a 4-0 win at home to West Bromwich Albion and prior to that, they broke Chelsea’s winning run with a 2-0 victory, also on home soil.
Mauricio Pochettino will have to make do without Vertonghen and Erik Lamela who are both still injured.
Prediction
City have netted in every home game this season, while Spurs are on a hot scoring streak with 30 goals in their last 10 fxitures.
