Sat 9 Nov 2013 15:00 – Southampton v Hull (St. Mary’s Stadium)

Referee: Howard Webb

Southampton have still only lost one game all season and are unbeaten at home which means that Steve Bruce’s team faces a tough task when they visit St. Mary’s stadium this weekend. One of the big improvements for the Saints under new Coach Mauricio Pochettino has been their defensive record which is one of the best in the league.

Southampton may have Osvaldo available for selection after missing out through injury. Hull are nursing a couple of injuries but no key players are missing at this stage.

Southampton only concede an average of 0.2 goals per game at home and Hull only score an average 0.8 per away game. The Tigers concede an average of 1.8 away and the Saints score an average of 1.4 at home. All of Southampton home games and 60% of Hulls away games have been under 2.5 goals. This game has a very high probability of being under 2.5 goals.

Southampton average 8 corners won and 3.2 conceded per game while Hull win an average of 3.8 and concede and average of 5.2. The total corner count suggests that there is an equal possibility of over or fewer than 10.5 corners in this game.

Southampton are unbeaten at home and have won their last three home games by two goals to nil.  With their defensive record and Hulls away record; losing four out of the last five games, there is no reason to doubt that the outcome will be any different this weekend. A home win to nil with fewer than 2.5 goals looks like the most probable outcome.

Match prediction: Southampton 2-0 Hull
