Sun 1 Dec 2013 12:00 – Spurs v Man Utd (White Hart Lane)
Referee: Mike Dean
Spurs had a good start to the season but their recent results have not been so positive and many fans are starting to question AVB’s credentials. They have an awful record against United and have only beaten them once in the last 28 meetings between the clubs. After a shaky start David Moyes has turned a corner with the current champions and they are currently enjoying the best form of all the Premier League sides. Despite this, the bookmakers are struggling to separate the teams in this weekend’s clash.
United should be boosted by the return to fitness of Van Persie, Vidic and Rafael to the squad while Spurs will be without the options of Adebayor and Eriksen.
Tottenham did not win a league game or score a goal in the whole of November and only score an average of 0.8 goals per game at home; they concede exactly the same average figure. United enjoy a healthy average of 2 goals per game away from home but concede an average of 1.7 per game. Spurs’ home games tend to have less than 2.5 goals (83.3%) but the same percentage of United’s away games have over 2.5 goals. Tottenham have the more favourable corner statistics with an average margin of +3.2 while United’s margin is just +0.7.
Tottenham are on a barren run of form and have not won any of their five matches above the teams above them so far this season. They are struggling to score in the league and are facing a side that has the best current league form and the highest average away goals record in the league. The bookmakers cannot split them but the statistics point to a narrow United victory this weekend.
Match prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 0-1 Manchester United
