Yesterday we took an early look at how the betting market is looking ahead of the men’s tournament at Wimbledon and today our focus turns towards the women. With just 9 days to go, all eyes are on the events in Birmingham and Eastbourne to see just who is bossing it on the grass courts.

At the Aegon Classic in Birmingham, Angelique Kerber and Sabine Lisicki will battle it out in all-German semi-final for a chance to face either Kristina Mladenovic or Karolina Pliskova in Sunday’s final. Mladenovic pulled off the biggest shock of the week when she defeated favourite Simona Help in the quarter-finals, and the French hopeful could be finally set to fulfil the potential she showed as a teenager. She has already shown her ability on the Wimbledon grass when she reached last year’s doubles final alongside partner Timea Babos. At just 22 years old, the former French Open junior champion may not be ready to win the Grand slam event in London but she could be a good value bet to reach the quarter-finals once the full markets open.

It could also be worth keeping an eye on the draw to see who Croatian youngster Ana Konjuh faces in the first round. The 17-year-old bagged her first WTA title and became the youngest tour winner in the last nine years with her triumph at last week’s Aegon Open in Nottingham. She also has an ITF trophy in her cabinet and is one player who could be capable of causing an early round upset.

Before the action starts in southwest London on 29 June, there is one more tournament to be contested in Eastbourne, where a total of 24 players will take part in the Aegon International. Reigning champion Madison Keys will be one of 5 former champions to feature at the event that also includes six of the world’s top 10 players and three Grand Slam champions in its line up.

It is no surprise that bookmakers have got Serena Williams as early favourite for the main event in SW19 and 2/1 is about the best price you could hope for at this stage. For those looking for a value bet, the 20/1 currently available at Betfair for Simona Halep looks like a great price for a player that is ranked at No. 3 in the world. After a brilliant 12 months, she has had a slight dip in form but like many top players, her recent tournaments have been all about preparing for Wimbledon and making that difficult transition from clay to grass.
