Can you smell what Roy is cooking? England of old have been moved aside and we’re entering a new era for the Three Lions. Could this be the final major tournament for Wayne Rooney? Let’s see how the likes of Alli, Kane, and Vardy play in Sunday’s friendly with Turkey.
When are the England Friendlies?
First England play Turkey Sunday 22nd May at 5.30 pm. Watch the match on ITV with coverage starting at 5.30 pm.
The first warm up friendly will see Delle Alli and Jack Wilshire play in Midfield. Both players urgently need some play time to develop a partnership in competitive games.
Wayne Rooney will not be present so it will be interesting to see how Jamie Vardy, Harry Kane, and Dele Alli will perform. Due to the absence of Man United players they’ll be no Chris Smalling, instead Eric Dier will be playing alongside John Stones in central defense.
Roy Hodgeson will be doing some interesting alchemy to develop England’s Euro 2016 strike force. One goal machine + another goal machine = Well it should equal a load of goals. Time will tell as the Golden Book winner, Kane, and runner up, Vardy, have never partnered before.
Kane and Vardy may also equal an end to Wayne Rooney’s captaincy of the Three Lions. Terry Veneables is on record saying that Rooney does not have to go and believes the three can play together. Roy Hodgeson’s favoured diamond formation can accomodate Rooney in a 4-3-3 set up.
