Newcastle will be hoping to maintain their place in the top half of the Premier League table by defeating boss Rafa Benitez’s old team Liverpool at St. James’ Park on Sunday afternoon.

After losing their opening two fixtures on their Premier League return, the Magpies bounced back with three straight wins before slipping up at fellow newcomers Brighton and Hove Albion last weekend (0-1).

With confidence running high and the feel-good factor back amongst the Geordie fans since the arrival of their Spanish gaffer, they will fancy their chances against a team who have made the long trek back from a Champions League appointment in Russia this week.

Liverpool will arrive in the northeast on the back of a 1-1 draw away to Spartak Moscow, yet another game they will feel they should have won. Few teams are creating more chances or enjoying more possession than the Reds but they are struggling to finish teams off. In normal circumstances, a draw in Moscow could be seen as a decent result but after dominating the game for such long spells, it felt more like a defeat.

Jurgen Klopps men did manage to squeeze 3-2 past Leicester City in the league last weekend but they were far from convincing and had to rely of Simon Mignolet penalty save to see them through. With just one win in their last six in all competitions, they will be keen to make amends against one of the promoted sides.

Prediction

You would expect Liverpool to make light work of a promoted side and it would be no surprise if they suddenly found their stride here despite the defensive frailties and wasted chances that have plagued their season so far. What’s more, a price of 8/11 for the away win is too good to turn down.

On his return from suspension, Sadio Mane will be fancied to score and can be backed at 7/5 to find the net anytime.

You can back the Away win at 8/11 and Sadio Mane as Anytime Goalscorer at 7/5 with Betfair.
