West Ham United will look to improve on their 16th-place ranking to ease the pressure on under-fire boss Slaven Bilic when they take on sixth-ranked Liverpool in Saturday’s late night Premier League kick off.

The Hammers drew away 2-2 to Crystal Palace last weekend but it felt more like a defeat as they threw away a two-goal lead. Only a few days before, they had come back from two goals down themselves to knock London rivals Tottenham Hotspur out of the League Cup.

With just two wins from their opening 10 games, it has been yet another poor start for a team that had big ambitions following their move to the London Stadium. On home soil, they have  two wins and two defeats to their name, a statistic that highlights their erratic form. Both wins featured clean sheets, while both defeats saw them concede three goals, including a 3-0 reverse to newly-promoted Brighton and Hove Albion.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will be looking to record a third win on the bounce after consecutive 3-0 wins over Huddersfield Town and Maribor. In total, they have won three of their last four (the only disappointment being the 4-1 defeat to Tottenham) scoring 14 goals in the process. The goals against Spurs were the only conceded during that spell.

Despite showing slight signs of improvement, it has not been a great campaign for Jurgen Klopp and his men. With 10 games played they find themselves in a lowly sixth place – certainly under par for a team with title aspirations.

There was some good news for the Reds this week as it appear Sadio Mane could be in line for a return after a spell out injured.

Prediction

When West Ham lose, they tend to lose well with 19 of their last 22 Premier League defeats featuring three goals or more.

Incredibly, Liverpool have shipped more goals away from home than any other team in the league and five of their last six away games have featured four goals or more. As a result, the Liverpool Win/Over 3.5 Goals bet looks good value here.
