Sunday Carabao Cup Final Preview and Odds – Arsenal vs. Manchester City

Wembley Stadium

A top four finish now seems unlikely for Arsenal, so the team from London must now focus on salvaging something from their season via the cup competitions. Champions League qualification is still a possibility thanks to the new Europa League rules and they will be hoping to emulate Manchester United’s feat of last season by bagging UEFA’s second tier crown. But first they have a chance to grab some silverware and a place in next year’s Europa League by beating Premier League pace-setters Manchester City in the English League Cup final at Wembley.

Despite being in the hunt for silverware, it has been a disappointing campaign for the Gunners, who are in danger of losing their tag as top-four shoe-ins. In fact, they have already been cut adrift from the top five and our currently languishing in the wilderness of sixth place. Being in the hunt for silverware has kept the wolf from the door but if finish the season empty-handed, there will be plenty of angry voices expressing their displeasure once again.

The North Londoners have netted in each of their last 11 matches against their opponents and will be keen to extend that streak this weekend. And with Aubameyang, Ozil and Mkhitaryan all expected to start, that scenario looks very likely.

Standing in Arsene Wenger’s way is a team that looks all-but certain to be on their way to Premier League glory and are still in the hunt for a treble. Pep Guardiola’s team totally dominated Wigan in last week’s FA Cup tie yet their lack of precision in front of goal ultimately cost them when their opponents scored with their only shot on target. His side will have to sharpen up their act on Sunday if they are to land the boss his first ever trophy in English football.
