While Napoli continue to win over football fans with a positive attacking style of football that has propelled them to the top of the Italian league, things haven’t gone quite as planned on the European stage. Having been hotly-tipped to finish second in Group F, they now find themselves playing catch-up to Shakhtar Donetsk.

Their under-achievement is perhaps not a total surprise given the quality that the Ukrainian side have shown this term. But it leaves Maurizio Sarri’s men in a precarious position with just three games left to play. With the Ukrainian’s playing at home to group stragglers Feyenoord on Wednesday, defeat to Manchester City could leave the team from Naples six points adrift with just two games to play.

The Italians are unbeaten at home this season, their only dropped points coming in the 0-0 stalemate with Inter.  Their only defeat in their last 10 matches came in the reverse fixture a few weeks ago.

Manchester City arrive here on the back of a 3-2 win at West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League. Remarkably, they remain unbeaten in all competitions this season, their only slip up being the 1-1 draw at home to Everton.

Pep Guardiola’s men have won all of their away games this term and have scored an average of three goals per game.

Prediction

Napoli having scored 20 goals in a total of seven home games this season, averaging two goals per game. As a result, they can be expected to at least get on the score sheet.

Meanwhile, Manchester City scored in all but one of their matches this term and have won all of their six away matches, netting 18 goals in the process, also making them contenders to find the net.

With both teams likely to score, the only question that remains is who will win the match? Well, City have been unstoppable this season and seem to be improving all the time. Napoli will need to take the game to them and that could play into the Citizens hands. It should be a close contest but the away side should just edge it.
