Recent Form
Sunderland: WLLWL
Stoke: WWDLW
Sunderland will attempt to record back-to-back wins for the first time this season on Saturday when they host in-form Stoke City at the Stadium of light in the Barclays Premier League.
Sunderland’s slow revival continues
Sunderland were rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table when Sam Allardyce took the reins back in October. Since then, the Black Cats have won two of their last four games and now sit in 18th place just a point away from the safety zone.
Last time out, the Black Cats came away with all three points after an impressive 1-0 win at Crystal Palace. A home win against Stoke this weekend could lift them out of the bottom three for the first time this season.
Sam Allardyce will have to make do without veteran striker Jermaine Defoe but could have Fabio Borini available.
Stoke unbeaten in three
Stoke did not have the best start to the season but only Tottenham have a better points total over the last eight games. They have lost just one of those eight games and have recorded five wins. As a result, they have now risen to 11th in the table just two points behind West Ham in 6th.
The Potters come into this game on the back of a pair of 1-0 victories. The first came at home to Chelsea and that was followed up last week by an impressive away win at Southampton. All three of Stoke’s away wins this season have ended with a 1-0 score-line.
Mark Hughes will be without Xherdan Shaqiri for this clash, while Marc Muniesa could return after a spell out with a hamstring injury.
Prediction
Stoke do not score many goals away from home but they have been very effective recording three win, three draws and just one defeat on the road. A correct score of 0-1 can be backed at 13/2 with Bet365.
So far this term, 85.7% of Stoke City’s away games have ended with fewer than 2.5 goals. Half of Sunderland’s home games – including their last two – have produced the same result. You can back Under 2.5 Goals at 8/13 with Bet365.
