Premier League Golden Boot 2015/16

With just 10 games left the play, the race for the Premier League Golden Boot looks like it is going to go down to the wire. Just like the title race, there are still plenty of contenders and a few surprise names near the top of the table.

Before a ball had been kicked this season, Sergio Aguero, Harry Kane and Diego Costa were seen as the main contenders; and with 28 games gone, both Kane and Aguero are still right in the mix. Meanwhile, a poor start to the season has left Costa lagging behind.

At the start of the season, Swansea duo Bafetimbi Gomis and André Ayew both started well but faded away. However, it was the emergence of Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and Odion Oghalo that took most people by surprise.

Vardy in particular caught the eye, when he equalled the English top-flight record by scoring in 12 consecutive games. The Leicester City striker is till leading the way with a total of 19 league goals as we head into the final quarter of the season. Vardy can be backed at 2/1 with Betfair to hang on to top spot in the scoring table

Hot on Vardy’s heels is Everton frontman Romelu Lukaku, who is on course for his most productive season ever. The 22-year-old Belgian has already scored 18 league goals and is currently priced at 3/1 with Betfair to claim the golden boot.

Next up is Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane on a total of 17 goals. The Tottenham man has scored a total of six goals in 2016 – more than both Lukaku (3) and Vardy (4). Could that momentum be enough to carry home over the line? If you think that Kane can overhaul the leaders, he can currently be backed at a decent price of 7/2 with Betfair.

The next serious contender is Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero. The Argentinean may be trailing Vardy by three goals, but he was injured earlier in the season and has already netted nine times in 2016.

If he continues at his current strike rate, he will be almost certain to finish on top of the scoring charts. For that reason, Aguero represents the best value at 3/1 with Betfair.
