Manager-less Aston Villa will be looking for something to cheer about when they play host to the reigning Premier League champions Chelsea at Villa Park on Saturday.

Remi Garde’s doomed stint as Aston Villa boss has finally come to an end. It was always going to be a tough job for the Frenchman who took charge of a side that was already in free fall. The early signs were promising but as other teams improved, Villa remained rooted to the bottom of the table.

Although relegation has yet to be confirmed, Villa staff and fans are already preparing for life in the Championship. They will be well aware of the fact that an instant return will not be easy with the current group of players.

The Villains have lost their last six Premier League matches and have not scored a goal in any of the last three.

In stark contrast, Chelsea have not lost a Premier League game since Gus Hiddink took over from Jose Mourinho last year. In total, the Blues are unbeaten in 14 matches, having won six and drawn the other eight. Despite their improvement, they remain stranded in the mid-table wasteland on 41 points with seven games left to play.

In recent weeks, the Londoners have exited both the Champions League, at the hands of PSG; and the FA Cup after falling to Everton. In their last game they were held to 2-2 draw by West Ham.

Prediction

Chelsea have won four of their last five game on the road, while Villa have lost their last six league fixtures.

You can back the Blues to Win to Nil at 7/5
