Germany will go in search of their first ever tournament win against Italy when the teams meet in Bordeaux on Saturday night.

Every team has their nemesis and Germany will meet theirs in the Euro 2016 quarter-finals this weekend. The Germans have never beaten Italy in eight previous meetings at tournament level. When the teams last met – at the semi-final stage of Euro 2012 in Warsaw – the Italians prevailed 2-1 before falling to Spain in the final.

The Italians also beat the Germans in the final of the 1982 World Cup and in the semi-finals of the 1970 and 2006 editions of the same event.

The good news for Germany, is that they did win the last friendly clash between the sides back in March by a 4-1 score line.

Thiago Motta will be suspended for Antonio Conte’s team.
