Sunday Euro 2016 Germany vs Slovakia – Preview
June 26, 2016 15:00pm – Stade Pierre Mauroy, Lille Métropole
Round of 16
Recent Form (all comps)
Germany: WDWWL
Slovakia: DWLDW
Reigning world champions Germany will continue their quest to bag a World Cup/Euro double when they face Slovakia at the Stade Pierre Mauroy on Sunday.
The Germans did not concede a goal on their way to the knock out phase but will be wary of the threat posed by a team that beat them in a friendly match back in May. On that occasion, the Germans fielded an inexperienced side but this will still be a tough game for Joachim Low’s men – even at full strength.
After losing their opening match against Wales, a draw against England and a win over Russia was enough to seal third place in Group B and a place in the last 16 for Slovakia.
The sides have only ever met in two previous competitive matches with Germany winning home (2-1) and away (4-1) during Euro 2008 qualifying.
Key Facts
- Germany have not conceded in their last four games
- Slovakia’s Euro 2016 qualifying campaign included a 2-1 win over Spain
- The teams have never drawn in 10 previous meeting s in all competitions
Prediction
Tournament masters Germany are in good form and have not conceded in their last four games. Slovakia are in uncharted waters and have nothing to lose so it should be a close game. However, we expecet the Germans to edge it in normal time.
