Sunday Premier League – Arsenal vs Everton Preview

May 21, 2017 15:00 – Emirates Stadium

Recent Form (League):

Arsenal: LWWWW

Everton: WDLLW

Arsenal welcome Everton to the Emirates on Sunday with the Gunners’ chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League still looking very slim.

Arsene Wenger’s team know that their fate is out of their hands, needing a home win while either Liverpool or Manchester City drop points to continue their fantastic 20-year run of Champions League qualification.

Pressure has been mounting on the French boss for a number of weeks but to his credit, he has found a formula that has at least put them within touching distance of European football’s Holy Grail. However, a run of four-straight wins may have come too late for the Londoners.

Everton on the other hand sit in seventh position having already secured Europa League via a good proportion of luck if nothing else. With Arsenal and Chelsea contesting the FA Cup final and both clubs having already qualified for Europe through their league position, and sixth-ranked Manchester United having won the EFL Cup, the Europa League third qualifying round entry is passed on to the seventh-placed team in the Premier League which just happens to be the Merseyside club.

A quick glance at recent results for the Blues would suggest that they have already turned their attentions towards their summer holidays knowing that European football is already in the bag.

Although the Toffee’s won the reverse fixture earlier in the season it was only their second league success over the Gunners in the last 20 games. Add to those statistics the fact that there has been only one goalless draw in those 20 games, then one can conclude that this is a fixture that almost guarantees goals.

Prediction: With Arsenal knowing nothing but a win is needed and Everton already planning which beach they will be occupying this summer, a home win with over 2.5 goals looks like a decent option in this game.
